Social Responsibility
Responsibility to our vineyard and winery workers has always been at the forefront of our mission. Our field employees have affordable healthcare, above industry wages, bonuses and 401K plan. We provide education and training to give the opportunity to move up within the company to a more highly skilled, higher paying position. We provide and promote technology that many don’t have access to outside of work, such as the integrated used of hand-held mobile devices. We invest in electric pruning shears for all general labor employees to ease the physical demands of hand pruning shears. This investment has led to a higher quality of life for our pruning crews and can lengthen their careers. Much of our workforce has been with us for over 25 years, with several of our vineyard managers working for Scheid Vineyards for over 40 years.
We have given our long-time support to many local organizations and programs in our community, both in donations and time. We donate over 300 cases of wine annually to local non-profits.
We were instrumental in the development of the Salinas Soccer Complex and led the fundraising efforts to make it happen and support our local families. We have held the Scheid Writing Contest annually since 1988 and awarded over $350,000 in scholarship money to local-area students. In 2018, we were named “Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation” by the Central Coast Association of Fundraising Professionals.
